의령군은 읍내 의령초등학교, 남산초등학교, 의령유치원 주변 도로 어린이보호구역 3곳에 만성적인 불법주정차 문제를 해결하기 위해 지속적인 CCTV 단속을 시행한다.
의령초교 앞 등 3개소는 어린이보호구역으로 설정하여 스쿨존임에도 불구하고 만성적인 불법 주정차로 인한 도로 혼잡 및 어린이 보행자 안전을 위협하는 등 사고위험이 상존한다는 민원이 제기되어 왔다. 이에 따라 8월부터 시범운영을 거친 후 9월 중순부터 본격적인 단속 카메라를 운영하기로 했다. 군은 어린이들의 안전한 등하교를 위해 오전 8시부터 오후 5시까지 CCTV단속을 실시하며 불법 주정차 단속 시 8만원의 과태료가 부과된다. 다만, 주말과 공휴일은 단속을 유예한다.
군 관계자는 “의령군, 초등학교, 의령경찰서 관계자 등이 참석하여 어린이보호구역 주차난 해소 대책회의 결과 불법 주정차 단속 카메라를 운영하기로 했다“며 운전자의 협조를 당부했다.
